August 26, 27 & 28, 2005 -
Bloor St. West Ukrainian Festival

The Bloor West Village Ukrainian Festival was inaugurated in 1997 as the Ukrainian Canadian community's response to the City of Toronto's call for the revival of a 1991 Twinning Agreement between Toronto and Ukraine's capital, Kyiv.

Bloor West Village will hold its 9th annual Ukrainian Festival from August 26 - August 28, 2005. The Ukrainian Festival has been designated a Community Festival by the Toronto City Council.

The Festival is held with support from the Ontario Trillium Foundation, The Ukrainian Canadian Foundation of Taras Shevchenko and in community partnership with St. Joseph's Hospital, St. Vladimar's Institute, Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral of St. Volodymyr, and St. Demetrius (Ukrainian Catholic) Corporation and Care Centre.

On Friday evening the Festivities begin at 6:00pm with the opening of the Food and Beverage gardens, kiosks, and children's midway. 7:00pm is showtime on the mainstage!

On Saturday, come on down early and have breakfast on Bloor St. At 11:00 am watch the colorful parade which includes close to 1,000 participants including Provincial and Municipal politicians, marching bands, dance groups, choirs, and youth organizations. The Parade beings at High Park and marches to Jane. St.

The Festival continues with all-day performances featuring various Ukrainian, and Canadian artists, singers, dancers, comedians, choirs and brand name acts from Ukraine. Throughout the day, festival participants are able to browse through the many kiosks featuring Ukrainian cuisine, souvenirs, and information booths.

To keep children entertained, the BWV Ukrainian Festival offers a children's area, with games, clowns, face painting and other fun activities.

Visit the Beer Gardens, food stands and sample great Ukrainian and Canadian foods.

As day turns into night the eagerly anticipated Cabaret extravaganza takes center stage. The Cabaret features the best in Ukrainian entertainment. Following the spectacular show, participants of all ages enjoy a live band and dance into the night.
